Destination Guide

Northern Ireland like its sisters is administratively divided into counties. In Northern Ireland there are 6 counties and Belfast. Hover over any of the areas and its title will be revealed, click the area and you will be taken to the relevant destination guide.

It is said that up north the Irish are tidier and less extravagant as the people of the south. Here you’ll find that there’s more often a sidewalk, a fence around a garden or park and better-trimmed greens. This may all be because not the inhabitants differ very much, but because Northern Ireland is part of the U.K. with its apparatus of public services and not a part of the Republic of Ireland. This becomes obvious when you compare things like motorways, which are far better in Northern Ireland, or shopping centers, that are dominated by English franchising.

The Irish are well known for their hospitality, and even thou they may be very intolerant of their fellow countrymen, this also applies for the northern part of the isle.

The capital of Northern Ireland, and also the largest city by far is Belfast, but you should not mis towns like Derry or Bangor as well. Though the se two cities are really worth visiting, most tourists come for the landscape an for nature. Ireland has some of the largest unspoiled areas of natural environment in Europe. The best way to get to know the country is by hiking or on horseback. Eighty miles of rugged Antrim Coastline is quite a walk, but you definitely want to see the Giant’s Causeway, which is a UNESCO world heritage site. Also quite beautiful is Fermanagh Lakeland and St. Patrick’s country. And for some real outdoors adventure try to go to the Mountains of Mourne or the Glenelly and Clogher Valleys.Northern Ireland is a favorite destination for active holidays. There’s both rugged country and glowing hills, deep forests, big lakes and of course the sea. Here you can angling and game fishing, but Ireland’s also a great destination if you want to go golfing, horseback riding or camping.
